Building Student Voice and Leadership at Collingwood Park State Secondary College

At Collingwood Park State Secondary College, we are proud to be building a school culture where students are not just participants in their education, but active contributors to the life of our school.

As a new and growing school, we are intentionally creating a strong foundation centred on student voice, leadership and shared responsibility. We believe that when students are empowered to lead, they develop confidence, ownership and a deeper connection to their school community.

A Culture of Student Voice and Accountability

Our vision is to create an environment where students feel heard, valued and capable of making a meaningful impact. At Collingwood Park, student leadership is not symbolic, it is purposeful.

Our student leadership structure continues to evolve as our school grows, currently including student ambassadors, Year 9 Captains and an active Student Council. Together, these groups provide multiple pathways for students to lead, contribute and represent their peers.

Our student leaders play an active role in shaping the culture of the school. They are involved in planning and running lunchtime activities, organising fundraising initiatives, leading house events, supporting assemblies and contributing ideas that help influence the direction of the school.

Our Student Council meets regularly to provide a platform for student voice, ensuring that ideas, feedback and initiatives from across the student body are heard and considered. Through these opportunities, students develop valuable real-world leadership skills while taking responsibility for important aspects of school life.

Investing in Leadership Development

To support this vision, we have partnered with Unleashing Personal Potential (UPP), a respected organisation that works with young people to develop their leadership capacity, confidence and communication skills.

Each year, our elected student leaders participate in an intensive leadership development program designed to strengthen their ability to lead others and make a positive difference within the school community. In addition, our entire Year 8 cohort takes part in a one-day leadership course, ensuring that leadership development is not limited to a small group of students, but embedded more broadly across the school.

This whole-school approach reflects our belief that every student has leadership potential and that leadership can be nurtured through opportunity, guidance and experience.

Recognised for Excellence

We are also proud to have been recognised as a School of Merit through an independent audit process. This achievement reflects our commitment to high standards, a positive school culture and continuous improvement as we establish ourselves within the community.

Looking Ahead

As Collingwood Park State Secondary College continues to grow, so too will our student leadership program. We will continue refining our leadership structures to ensure they are inclusive, representative and meaningful for all students.

By empowering students with voice, responsibility and opportunity, we are developing strong young leaders and building a connected, inclusive and future-focused school community.
