​​Design and Technologies - Woodwork & Metalwork

The Design and Technologies (Woodwork and Metalwork) program at Collingwood Park State Secondary College provides students with hands-on learning experiences that build practical skills, creativity, and problem-solving. Aligned with Version 9 of the Australian Curriculum, students design, produce, and evaluate projects using a variety of materials and tools.

Through working with wood, metal, and digital design platforms such as TinkerCAD and Inventor, students learn precision, safe workshop practices, and sustainable decision-making. They develop skills in planning, measurement, construction, and iterative design—skills highly valued in modern industry.

This learning area supports pathways into engineering, construction, design, manufacturing, and other technical trades. Students gain lifelong practical abilities, confidence working with tools, and a strong understanding of how ideas are transformed into functional outcomes.

Food Specialisation

Food Specialisations at Collingwood Park State Secondary College equips students with essential life skills in nutrition, food preparation, and safe kitchen practices. In alignment with the Australian Curriculum Version 9, students design, produce, and evaluate food solutions that meet a variety of needs, while considering factors such as health, sustainability, and culture.

Through hands-on practical lessons, students develop skills in meal planning, cooking techniques, and time management. They explore the impact of food choices on health and wellbeing and engage with diverse cuisines and food traditions.

Food Specialisations prepares students for pathways in hospitality, nutrition, food science, and home-economics-related industries. It also fosters independence and confidence for everyday life.

Digital Technologies

The Digital Technologies program at Collingwood Park State Secondary College empowers students to become innovative creators, responsible digital citizens, and confident problem-solvers. Aligned with Version 9 of the Australian Curriculum, the program provides students with hands-on opportunities to design, develop, and evaluate digital solutions that address real-world needs.

Across Years 7–9, students explore a wide range of contemporary technologies and concepts—from esports analytics and web app development to AI, cybersecurity, robotics, Arduino systems, 3D printing, and ethical digital citizenship. They learn how digital systems represent and transmit data, how algorithms are designed and traced, and how user stories and design criteria shape effective solutions.​

Digital Technologies develops critical and creative thinking, systems thinking, and design thinking. Students learn to decompose problems, collaborate using agile processes, and evaluate solutions with reference to user needs, sustainability, and future impact. These are essential skills in a digitally driven world.

The subject provides strong pathways into fields such as computer science, cybersecurity, software development, engineering, game design, digital media, and data analytics. More importantly, it equips students with the capability to participate confidently, safely, and ethically in a rapidly evolving technological landscape.
