The Humanities program at Collingwood Park State Secondary College engages all learners in the study of History, Geography, Civics & Citizenship & Economics & Business. Aligned with The Australian Curriculum V9, this learning area develops critical thinking, problem-solving, and analytical skills that are essential for active and informed citizenship.

  • History explores significant events, movements, and individuals that have shaped societies over time. Through historical inquiry, students examine sources, evaluate perspectives, and develop a deeper understanding of how the past influences the present and future.

  • Geography investigates the relationships between people, places, and environments. Students develop spatial awareness, analyse global and local issues, and consider sustainable solutions to environmental and social challenges.

  • Economics & Business examines how individuals, businesses, and governments make decisions about resources. By exploring financial literacy, entrepreneurship, and economic systems, students gain skills that prepare them for participation in a rapidly changing economy.

  • Civics & Citizenship focuses on Australia’s political and legal systems, as well as the rights and responsibilities of citizens. Students explore democratic values, the role of government, and how individuals can contribute to their communities and the broader society.

The Humanities provide a strong foundation for a wide range of future pathways. These subjects develop the ability to research, communicate, and critically evaluate information—essential skills for success in both professional and personal life.

Collingwood Park State Secondary College is committed to fostering engaged, informed, and responsible global citizens who understand the complexities of the world and their role within it.
