Year 9 Camp

A camp is offered to year 9 students and runs early in term 3 each year. This is a valuable opportunity for our Year 9 cohort—one that we believe will benefit every student by allowing them to demonstrate their leadership and teamwork skills, while also strengthening their sense of belonging as they continue their educational journey at Collingwood Park State Secondary College.

Maroon Outdoor Education Centre provides every student with real adventure and real achievement to assist them to learn outdoors.  The camp allows students to spend time outdoors being active, connecting with nature and helps them learn from their experiences.  The camp program engages students in outdoor adventure activities and maroon’s skilled and qualified teachers assist students to reflect on their experiences to enhance their knowledge and skills in teamwork, resilience and leadership.

For more information, please speak to the Year 9 coordinator or the Year 9 Deputy Principal.

Year 7 Geography & Science Excursion: Wivenhoe Dam

CPSSC Year 7 Geography and Science students have the exciting opportunity to take their learning beyond the classroom through a hands-on excursion to Wivenhoe Dam. This experience is carefully designed to support both the Science and Geography curriculum, allowing students to see real-world applications of what they study in class.

During the excursion, students participate in an engaging educational program delivered by Seqwater. At the water's edge, they conduct water quality testing, applying key scientific skills and concepts in an authentic environment. In Geography, students explore the important role Wivenhoe Dam plays in supporting surrounding communities, including its role in flood mitigation, water supply and security, and the interaction between natural and human-made features.

In 2026, the excursion is scheduled for the end of Term 2. A small fee will apply to cover bus transportation, with payment plan options available through the school's front office.

We look forward to providing students with this valuable and memorable learning experience.

2026 Year 9 English Incursion: The Stones

Year 9 English students will have the valuable opportunity to deepen their understanding of the class text The Stones through a live incursion experience. This year, Shock Therapy Arts will visit the school to perform the play, bringing the story to life in a powerful and engaging way.

About the performance:

“Based on a true story, THE STONES is about risk taking behaviour and the pain of guilt when things go too far. Written by Tom Lycos and Stefo Nantsou (Zeal Theatre), this play has earned a worldwide reputation of being one of the most successful plays for young audiences."

Experiencing a live performance allows students to engage with the text in a dynamic and immersive way, deepening their understanding of key themes such as consequences, responsibility, and peer influence. Through exposure to different text types—including plays and performances—students build their ability to analyse how meaning is created through language, structure, and dramatic techniques. This directly supports the ACARA Version 9 English curriculum, which emphasises engaging with diverse texts to develop critical thinking, interpretation, and personal response skills.

The incursion will take place in Term 3, providing students with a memorable and thought-provoking learning experience that enhances their study of The Stones.

2026 Year 7 English Incursion: Author visit

The Year 7 English program provides students with rich opportunities to engage with high-quality literature and develop their skills as thoughtful readers and writers. In Term 3, students study the novel Two Wolves, a gripping and thought-provoking text that explores themes of morality, choice, and family.

To further enrich this learning experience, we are excited to welcome acclaimed Australian author Tristan Bancks to the school for a special incursion. During his visit, Tristan will speak with students about the inspiration behind Two Wolves, his writing process, and the key ideas explored in the novel. Students will also participate in engaging writing workshops, giving them the opportunity to apply their own creative skills under the guidance of a professional author.

Two Wolves is a bestseller and a Children's Book Council of Australia Honour Book, with Tristan Bancks also recognised through accolades including the South Australian Literary Awards, the Prime Minister's Literary Awards, and the YABBA Awards.

Engaging directly with an author supports the ACARA Version 9 English curriculum by exposing students to diverse texts and perspectives, and strengthening their ability to interpret, analyse, and create their own texts. This authentic experience fosters a deeper appreciation of storytelling while building students' confidence as writers and critical thinkers.

This exciting incursion will take place in Term 3 and is sure to be a highlight of the Year 7 English program.

Australian History Competition:

Students in Years 7–10 have the opportunity to extend their learning in Humanities through participation in the Australian History Competition. Run by the History Teachers' Association of Australia, this extra-curricular competition challenges students to think critically and apply their historical knowledge in an examination setting.

The competition is completed at school under supervised conditions, allowing students to engage with a range of source-based and knowledge questions that align with the ACARA Version 9 History curriculum for their year level. It is an excellent opportunity for students to strengthen their analytical skills, deepen their understanding of the past, and challenge themselves academically.

All participants receive a certificate and grade, with high-achieving students eligible for medallions and cash prizes. This is a rewarding opportunity for students with an interest in History to showcase their skills and be recognised for their achievement.

EOI for the competition open in term 1 with the competition taking place mid term 2.
