The Science program at Collingwood Park State Secondary College inspires students to explore how the natural and physical world works through curiosity, investigation, and evidence-based reasoning. Aligned with Version 9 of the Australian Curriculum, our program builds deep scientific understanding while nurturing critical thinking, problem-solving, and ethical decision-making.
Students study science through the strands of Science Understanding, Science as a Human Endeavour, and Science Inquiry Skills. They explore key concepts across Biological Sciences, Chemical Sciences, Earth and Space Sciences, and Physical Sciences—developing an appreciation for how scientific knowledge evolves and how it influences society and technological progress.
Science learning is hands-on and inquiry-driven. Students plan and conduct investigations, collect and analyse data, evaluate the reliability of evidence, and communicate findings using scientific language and representations. They also learn about contemporary issues such as climate change, sustainability, emerging technologies, and the role of science in improving human lives.
The Science program prepares students for diverse pathways including health, engineering, environmental science, medicine, research, biotechnology, and a wide range of STEM fields. More broadly, it equips students with the ability to question claims, interpret information critically, and make informed decisions in an increasingly complex world.
Collingwood Park State Secondary College is committed to developing scientifically literate young people who value evidence, think deeply about their world, and contribute positively to their communities.
