The Health and Physical Education (HPE) program at Collingwood Park State Secondary College supports the holistic development of every learner, fostering physical competence, emotional wellbeing, and the knowledge needed to make informed, healthy decisions. Aligned with Version 9 of the Australian Curriculum, the program empowers students to understand themselves, build positive relationships, and participate confidently and safely in a range of movement contexts.

Across Years 7 and 8, students explore key health concepts including identity, wellbeing, safety, respectful relationships, nutrition, puberty, body image, and risk-taking behaviours. They analyse the factors that influence their choices and emotions and propose strategies to manage personal challenges and transitions. Practical learning forms an essential part of the program, with students engaging in athletics, fitness, fundamental movement skills, court games, cultural games, Pickleball, AFL, and Touch Football. These experiences help students develop confidence, teamwork, and refined movement skills across varied sporting environments.

In Years 9 and 10, students build on this foundation through deeper exploration of topics such as drugs and alcohol, mental health, respectful relationships, safety, nutrition, community-based activity, and identity influences. They critically evaluate health information, investigate strategies for enhancing wellbeing, and consider how attitudes, beliefs, and inclusivity shape behaviour and relationships. Practical units extend students’ specialised movement skills in activities such as T-Ball, Futsal, European Handball, and Volleyball, while also fostering leadership, collaboration, and the ability to design personalised fitness and participation plans.

Health and Physical Education provides students with essential life skills—supporting them to communicate effectively, build resilience, respond safely to challenges, and engage in active, healthy lifestyles. These capabilities form a strong foundation for future pathways in sport, health, fitness, education, and community services.

Collingwood Park State Secondary College is committed to developing confident, capable, and health-literate young people who can contribute positively to their communities and lead active, balanced lives.
